The South Wake ARC is raffling off a Yaesu FT-60R HT. Raffle tickets are $5 each. No limit on the number of tickets you can buy. The drawing for the raffle will be held at the December meeting. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the South Wake ARC. |
The South Wake ARC will be assisting the Boy Scouts with their Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) event again this year. The JOTA event is on October 15th from about 8am to Noon at the American Legion in Fuquay Varina. Come on out if you are interested in helping out. The Boy Scouts always have a good time at this event. |
The South Wake ARC will host a swapfest on October 8th from 8am to noon. The swapfest will be held at the American Legion in Fuquay Varina. This is the same location where we have held Field Day and the JOTA. This will be a very informal event. If weather permits we will set up outside on the picnic tables. If weather is an issue or this turns out to be a bigger event than expected we can use space in the meeting hall adjacent to the picnic area. We are looking for a firm commitment from a few folks willing to set up things to sell. If you can commit to attending and setting up some things to sell please email Anna at kf4usq@gmail.com. Coffee and donuts will be available. Donations will be accepted to cover the cost. |
The South Wake ARC will be participating in the annual Bass Lake Day festival this year. The festival will be held on October 1st from 2 - 8pm. The South Wake Amateur Radio Club will be holding elections for 2011 / 2012 club officers at the close of the June 6th, 2011 meeting. The nominating committee has returned the following nominees for 2011 / 2012 club officers.

On May 14, 2011 the South Wake ARC will be running a special event station hosted by the Airborne and Special Operations Museum (ASOM) in Fayetteville, NC. The ASOM museum is located at 100 Bragg Blvd - Fayetteville, NC 28301.
During the special event, we will be using the special callsign W4V which stands for "We're For Veterans". Our station is being set up in honor of All American Week.
We need folks to help with setup, tear down, operation, and logging! If you can't come by, try to catch us on the air!
We will set up starting on May 14th at 8:00am. The station will go live once setup is complete. Our station will be set up inside the museum exhibits. We will have two HF stations - one voice and one CW - with vertical antennas on the facility roof. If there is enough interest, we will have a digital mode station as well.
Our stations will be operating on the following frequencies:
SSB: 80m/3.810, 40m/7.185, 20m/14.250, 10m/28.850.
CW: 40m/7.045, 20m/14.070
The event will end at 4:00pm. After the event ends we will need folks to stay and help clean up from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. We must have the site cleaned up and all gear removed before the museum closes. Byron King K4NGJ passed on Friday September 24, 2010. Byron was a friend to many members of the SWARC club. He was very active in ham radio through several area clubs as well as community service. Byron will be greatly missed. For information on visitation and funeral arrangements click here. |
The SWARC club will have a booth at Bass Lake Day located at Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs on October 2nd, 2010. We plan to set up a station to demo ham radio to any interested parties. Please contact Gino KI4YXO on the 145.21 repeater or email southwakearc at gmail.com if you're interested in staffing the booth or otherwise helping out. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers courtesy of Bass Lake Park. Set up for the event runs from 12:30-1:30pm. The festival starts at 2:00pm and runs until 5:00pm. Dinner is served with live bluegrass music to accompany from 5:00-7:00pm. |
